About me

Deze pagina is ook beschikbaar in het Nederlands.

Hi there! Welcome to my travel blog Homesick for Everywhere (want to know how I got this name? Read all about it here!). Traveling is my passion and I hope I can inspire you with my stories and travel tips as I go about exploring the world.

And what a truly beautiful world it is!

Why this blog?

I first started blogging as a way to keep our family and friends updated during our road trip through the American Southwest. I actually didn’t enjoy this “live blogging” thing too much because it took up so much time during our trip, but I did like writing about our travels. I also really enjoy browsing through other people’s travel blogs to get inspiration for future trips. The idea of creating my own travel blog had been in my head for a while and a few years later Homesick for Everywhere was born.

Who am I?

My name is Ines (but you can call me Nes), I live in Belgium with my husband and our two cats. In 2020 our son joined the family. I am a dreamer, an introvert, an animal lover, an overthinker, an adventurer and also a bit of a scaredy-cat.

I like to read (books of course but also travel guides and blogs). I like all sorts of movies and series (just not horror though). Though I don’t consider myself to be a gamer, I do enjoy playing The Sims. I like music. I like baking and decorating cupcakes (and eating them, too). I like food in general (especially Italian). I like nature walks. I like photographing the world around me (and I plan to get better at it). I like animals, especially cats, elephants and horses.

I like to travel (didn’t see that one coming, did you?) and I like to plan my next big adventure. I can spend hours of my time browsing travel blogs for inspiration and planning the perfect itinerary.

I am not the travel blogger who quit her job to travel the world. I’m not a fulltime traveler. I work an 8 to 5 job and I save my money and vacation days to travel to new exciting places (luckily, I work for a company that gives me over 35 vacation days a year). I have an ever-growing bucketlist of destinations that I want to visit and I plan to cross a few of them of my list each year.

On this blog you’ll find mostly travel tips and inspiration for those who, just like me, can’t or don’t want to travel fulltime. In my ideal world I like to go on one big trip of two to three weeks a year with the occasional city trip in between. Since the corona crisis and the birth of our son, this frequency has decreased considerably. I hope to travel more in the future, although these trips will be a little more adapted to our new family. Where in the past I mainly tried to see and do as much as possible in the time we had, our future travels will probaby be a bit more relaxed.

Where have I been?

When I was younger, my family and I went on a vacation every summer, from camping in France to renting a house in the Czech Republic to staying in an all-inclusive hotel in Turkey. Though it was all good fun, it wasn’t until 2011, when I was visiting Egypt with my boyfriend (who is now my husband), that I got seriously infected with the travel bug. I discovered that I loved exploring all the ancient sites and visiting different parts of the country, rather than staying put in one place. I like my vacations to be a little bit more active (which is funny because at home I can be quite the lazy person).

Three years later we traveled to the United States (road trip from NYC to Washington D.C.) and I fell deeply in love with this amazing country. In the years that followed we went back to the States for a road trip through the American Southwest (where we both discovered that we really enjoy being outdoors) and then another road trip through the Mountain States. In 2018, we decided to head east for a change and headed to Thailand for our honeymoon, with a stopover in Dubai. Our most recent vacation took us to southeast Canada and New England (USA).

In addition, I also got to cross a few European cities off my bucketlist. In recent years, I’ve been to Paris, London, Lisbon, Vienna, Valencia and Copenhagen.

Where am I going?

I started this blog as a promise to myself. A promise that I will not give up traveling, no matter what. If I compare myself to most travel bloggers out there, I know I don’t even come close to all the traveling they do, but that’s okay! My goal is to combine a ‘normal’ life (work a steady job, have children, …) with my love of travel. And to enjoy it even more, I decided to start this blog. This way I can share my passion with others and relive my travels through the power of words and pictures, and maybe share a few travel tips along the way.
